Observation of picosecond pulse structures using optical frequency modulation

Abstract

Short and intense laser pulses propagating through materials exhibiting intensity dependence of the refractive index have spectral broadening due to self-phase modulation. This nonlinear process is the key to a number of coherent optical treatments on the picosecond time scale.
