Abstract

In recent years, much attention has been given to radiation emitted by relativistic electrons. This is principally synchrotron radiation in a dipole field, in an undulator, or from a free-electron laser. The free-electron laser (FEL) is a very promising source of coherent radiation in the spectral range from the far IR to the VUV; the earliest proposals for such a device were made by Ginzburg1 and Motz.2
