Phase deviation and beam divergence of a large aperture resonator beam

Abstract

In the classical expansion of the modes of a resonator in terms of orthonormal functions, the phase variations have an important role. Often the radial phase deviation is neglected in using these results for the calculation of the far-field beam divergence of a laser.
