Abstract
Recently multiple quantum well (MQW) materials made of alternating thin layers (~100 Å) of GaAs and GaAlAs have become very interesting for their room-temperature nonlinear optical properties1-9 with real opportunities for novel practical devices. They show two different types of effect: (1) nonlinear absorption and refraction associated with saturating the room-temperature exciton resonances1-7; (2) electric field dependence of near band gap absorption.8,9
