Abstract

As-S glass fibers are excellent optical waveguides for CO laser power transmission, because the As-S glass has a minimum optical transmission loss in the wavelength region around 5 μm. Therefore, this fiber should be suitable for many applications including laser surgery and laser material processing. Recently, we reported a 40-W power transmission with a 420-cm long 1000-μm diam fiber.1 This paper deals with more powerful CO laser transmission (~60 W).
