Abstract
Most previously reported work on high-power elemental copper-vapor lasers has concentrated on pulse repetition frequencies close to 5 kHz.1,2 At this repetition frequency the maximum efficiency of ~1 % is obtained for large-bore (6-cm) CVLs.3 For many important applications of pulsed visible lasers such as high-speed photography, component trimmings, and large-area displays, some loss in efficiency is tolerable to achieve the much higher repetition frequencies they demand. However, the sacrifice in efficiency need not be excessive.
