Abstract
The 3-D calculational technique (with approximations) presented in this paper allows rapid evaluation of ASE effects on small aspect ratio (length/width) laser amplifiers or oscillators. The method includes the effects of nonsaturable absorption, ASE line narrowing, as well as a single reflection of the ASE flux from an end mirror that forms the back of a resonator or the reflector in a double-pass amplifier geometry.
