Optical switching device for fiber arrays

Abstract

Local area networks using optical fibers require new types of 2-D broadband optical switch enabling the connection of many channels (typically 1024 × 1024 input-output fibers)1 (Fig. 1). A passive optical switch will not limit the bandpass of the signal for transmission and will be vibration-free.
