Low-loss Te-based chalcogenide glass optical fibers and their uses in radiometric thermometers

Abstract

Infrared optical fibers operating at 2-12 μm have been required for IR sensing applications such as the radiometric thermometer and CO2 laser power applications, e.g., laser surgery. Various halide crystals and chalcogenide glasses have been proposed.1,2 In these materials, chalcogenide glasses have the advantage that they exhibit no increase in scattering loss due to the plastic deformation which usually occurs in the crystalline fibers.
