Abstract

Gadolinium scandium gallium garnet crystals co-doped with neodymium and chromium ions (Nd:Cr:GSGG) have been shown to yield significantly higher lasing efficiency than Nd:YAG when pumped by fiashlamps.1–3 The improvement results from increased efficiency of absorption of flashlamp light by ions followed by rapid energy transfer to the emitting Nd3+ ions.
