Abstract
The efficiency of nonlinear interactions can be greatly enhanced in guided wave structures because of the elimination of diffraction effects.1 The practical realization of visible wavelength-guided wave devices in lithium niobate is severely hindered by the phenomenon of photorefractive-index damage.2 It has recently been discovered that the photorefractivity of lithium niobate can be greatly reduced by addition of 5 % MgO doping.3
