Abstract

We have developed a high-voltage-shaped pulse generator for use as a Pockets cell driver in the master oscillator system of the Nova laser.1 Nova produces nanosecond-duration 100-kJ pulses at 1.05-μm wavelength by amplifying 100-μJ-level pulses from the master oscillator.2 Gain saturation in the large glass amplifiers causes reduction in gain over the duration of the pulse and thus temporal distortion.3 By predistorting the input pulse, it is possible to compensate for saturation and deliver a specified pulse shape to the fusion target.
