Operation of a Laterally Coupled Cavity Semiconductor Laser

Abstract

Using techniques previously developed for etched mirrors, we have fabricated a laterally coupled cavity (LC2) laser consisting of two side-by-side lasers of different lengths with separate electrical contacts. The lasers are close enough together that their fields couple to one another (figure 1).
