Abstract
A unique low-pressure low-voltage CO2 laser discharge technology has been used to construct an optical preamplifier for CO2 laser lines in lidar applications. Design considerations and predicted performance of this device were presented at CLEO ’84.1 During the past year a laboratory version of the optical preamplfier was constructed and tested. Laboratory gain and noise test data show improvement over prior CO2 laser amplifiers2 and show agreement with results predicted for this device.
