Abstract
We report the first successful production of centers in additively colored K:Li crystals. This material now offers the possibility of obtaining a stable laser medium which can be tuned from 2.4 to 4.0 μm. Unlike the electron-beam colored material used in the previously reported KI:Li laser,1 this material will enhance the utility of the laser since it can be easily colored using an enclosed-bomb technique and can be stored indefinitely near room temperature.
