Abstract
The wavelength tunability and high efficiencies of laser-pumped dye lasers have led to their use in several prototype photochemical process applications. A dye laser system designed to produce 100 W or 200 mj/pulse at a pulse repetition frequency of 500 Hz, tunable through the 380–410-nm spectral region is currently under phased construction. The system is based on a master oscillator-power amplifier (MORA) dye-laser chain pumped by an array of discharge excimer lasers. We review the overall system design and the currently achieved component performance.
