Abstract
One of us (KS) has recently pointed out1 that axial modes with a very wide frequency spacing can be produced in a laser cavity containing a dispersive grating pair of the type more usually employed for optical pulse compression. We present here a simple but general analysis of the axial mode properties in such cavities, showing two types of interesting and unusual behavior.
