Abstract
The efficiency of cw hollow cathode lasers is connected to the possibility of operating the discharge at high-current densities and increased voltage. Unfortunately, in a conventional hollow cathode discharge some limitations exist due to discharge instabilities and arcing at high currents. These problems could hardly be avoided in the high-voltage hollow cathode discharge proposed in Ref. 1.
