Abstract
An optically injected semiconductor laser exhibits several types of behavior, depending on the injection rate and the detuning1,2 as depicted in Fig. 1. When the conditions for injection locking are not fulfilled, pulsation instability may occur, especially for injection on the upper side of the locking range. For injection on the lower frequency side, a more stable operation is usually observed. We show that, in this case, the laser exhibits a two-sided spectrum quite similar to those observed from a driven tunnel diode oscillator.3
