DIRECT MODULATION OF A Nd:YAG LASER BY COMBINED SIDE AND END LASER DIODE PUMPING

Abstract

We report a novel scheme for rapid, direct modulation of solid state lasers by a combination of low power cw laser diode end pumping together with high peak power pulsed side pumping. With end pump bias the Nd:YAG output pulses replicate the diode array side pumping pulses with negligible relaxation oscillation (R.O) and increased energy per pulse. The emitted power is confined to the TEM00 mode.
