Abstract

Diffusion-cooled CO2 lasers typically exhibit a maximum output power of 75 W/m. It has been presumed that only convective flowing of the CO2 laser gas can increase this output power per meter. However, a previously unknown physical effect permits the construction of a new class of diffusion-cooled CO2 laser which exhibits output powers exceeding 650 W/m of discharge length.
