Abstract

Recently, we developed a new type of multifunctional crystal NdxY1-xAl3(BO3)4 (NYAB) with high effective self-frequency doubling conversion. It is shown by analysis that the emitting section σ, at 1.06 µm of the Nd3+ 4F3/2—4/11/2 energy level transition is 5 times higher than that of the emitting section σ2 at 1.32 μm of the Nd3+ 4F3/2—4/13/2 energy level transition. This defines that this crystal has good fundamental wave emission features as well as optical homogeneity. In view of the slight absorbability of the Nd3+ ion in the crystal to green light at 0.53 μm, we measured the nonlinear effects of crystal power samples with different mole percentages. Finally, the optimum concentration ratio of Nd3+/Y3+ was found.
