Abstract
Results of an experimental investigation of phase conjugation by stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) at 1.053 μm in high-pressure (40-atm) xenon under long pulse conditions are reported. Pulse lengths of 150-420 μs, which are >6700 times the phonon lifetime at a wavelength of 1,053 μm, are longer than have been reported previously, Experimental data were collected in static conditions and in conditions where the pump beam was scanned across the SBS medium to alleviate heating effects For static conditions, the measurements show constant reflectivity vs time over the entire pulse as well as excellent phase-conjugation fidelity for both unaberrated and aberrated pump beams.
