Abstract

Higher-frequency semiconductor lasers are needed for future digital opical communications systems that may operate at bit rates of 20 Gbit/s or more, for analog broadcast applications utilizing many subcarriers for video distribution or satellite transmission, and for short-pulse generation for time division multiplexing and physics experiments.
