Model of stimulated Brillouin scattering excited by a dual-frequency pump

Abstract

The equations governing the interaction of stimulated Brillouin scattering processes associated with two pumps at different frequencies are presented. Where the single-frequency process gives rise to a single first Stokes wave (assuming no second Stokes response), the dual-frequency process with a nonzero-frequency separation is shown to give rise to a hierarchy of first Stokes waves separated in frequency by ±nΔω, where n is an integer and Δω is the pump-frequency separation.
