Picosecond pulse propagation on hybrid high Tc transmission lines

Abstract

Recently optoelectronic techniques have been used to generate and detect subpicosecond electrical pulses on coplanar transmission lines using aluminum lines1 and superconducting Nb transmission lines2 at low temperature. The associated frequency spectrum of these electrical pulses ranges up to 1 THz. In the case of Al lines the 0.6- ps pulse width of the electrical pulses increases 3 times after propgating over ≃10 mm on 5-μm wide metal lines (impedance 100 Ω).
