Abstract
Recently, bit-error-rate floors have been reported to arise from modulation-induced mode partition (MIMP) in single-mode DFB lasers.1 We have discovered with time-resolved photon statistics2 that MIMP can originate from index changes induced by transient carrier variations during turn-on. We also propose effective device screening and desirable parameters to ensure error-free operation.
