Ionization-recombination mechanism of the triplet absorption losses growth in gas phase dye lasers

Abstract

It is well known that the number of active media for gas phase dye lasers is much smaller than for liquid lasers. Also, attempts to get laser action in dye vapors by nonoptical pumping in a gas discharge or by a pulse electron beam are not yet successful. Among the reasons suggested earlier to explain this situation, triplet-triplet absorption losses of both laser emission and pump radiation due to recombination of the active molecule cations and electrons or anions produced by pump radiation were not considered.
