Abstract
Induction and growth of particles have been studied in cylindrical cells containing carbon disulfide (CS2) or carbonyl sulfide (OCS) vapor. Pulsed, focused, and unfocused excimer (XeCI) and excimer-pumped (KrF) dye laser beams were used to initiate particle formation. Particle induction and growth were monitored by a monochromator and photomultiplier tuned to observe scattered light at 90° from a probe He-Ne laser beam collin- ear with the exciting light. In CS2, particle formation is observed along the entire length of the beam.
