Cross-phase modulation for weak pulse compression and creation of pulses from cw light in a fiber

Abstract

We propose using a combination of negative group velocity dispersion (GVD) and cross-phase modulation (CPM) coming from intense pulsed pump light due to the optical Kerr effect in fibers to compress weak signal pulses at a different wavelength or to generate short pulses from cw light.
