Observation of domain wall behavior in the presence of submicrometer defects and substrate structures in the media of magnetooptical recording

Abstract

We describe experiments in static recording of magnetic domains in magnetooptical recording films (TbFeCo and superlattices of CoPt and CoPd) and observations of the slow wall motion and its perturbation by physical structures in the film. By appropriate choice of the microstructure of the substrate, along with recording conditions, one can stop the growth of domain walls and pin them to the grooves and scratches to control domain shape and extent.
