Abstract

In recent years nitropyridine compounds have attracted much interest for nonlinear optical applications. 2-(N-prolinol)-5-nitropyridine (PNP) belongs to this group of materials and possesses one of the highest optical nonlinearities of this family (powder efficiency 140 × urea). The crystal structure has been reported1 to have space group P21 and point group symmetry 2. Single crystals of PNP with good optical quality have been grown from solution.2
