Abstract

Optical signal processing using nonlinear phenomena in optical fibers requires high input power. The input power level needed for the desired nonlinear effects can be drastically decreased due to the power enhancement in high finesse interferometers. Storage of resonant cw power in a fiber ring interferometer (FRI) was used previously to increase Rayleigh backscattering.1 We propose methods for the efficient excitation of intense optical pulses in a FRI.
