Abstract
A lidar /DIAL apparatus can provide range-resolved concentration profiles of atmospheric trace gases and pollutants with good sensitivity and long range capability.1 The ENEA ground based CO2 lidar/DIAL facility2 has been recently started by investigating water vapor concentrations over the Rome metropolitan area, recognizing that water vapor plays an important role in the atmospheric dynamics since it is involved, directly or indirectly, in most chemical reactions and affects the refractive index of the atmosphere as well as the visibility.3
