Abstract

Laser efficiency is an important quantity to know when designing a laser fusion facility. Small differences in laser efficiency produce huge changes in the overall cost of the system; thus it is important to measure the efficiency accurately and to operate the laser in an efficient regime. With these goals in mind, a program was undertaken to measure the intrinsic efficiency of a KrF laser oscillator and the extraction efficiency of a KrF amplifier. In addition, the fluorescence efficiency of the laser gas mix was measured, and the laser gain, loss, and saturation intensity were determined.
