Abstract

The use of nonlinear sum frequency generation by mixing of GaAlAs laser diode emission with 1064-nm Nd:YAG output offers an efficient method for producing coherent radiation in the 450-480-nm spectral region, a range which is not easily accessible with frequency doubled laser diodes. Previously this method was used with KNbO3 in a single pass configuration,1 and KTP placed inside a dye laser pumped Nd:YAG laser cavity2 which resulted in 1.0 mW of 459-nm emission.
