Picosecond tunable optical parametric amplification in barium and lithium borates

Abstract

The possibility of using optical parametric amplification (OPA) in a crystal to generate high power widely tunable picosecond pulses is most attractive for many applications. The recently developed nonlinear crystals BBO and LBO are ideal for the construction of such a device because of their large nonlinearities and high optical damage thresholds. We report here the preliminary results of our study on picosecond parametric amplification in BBO and LBO.
