Abstract

ZnSe has been shown to exhibit strong nonlinear absorption.1 Consequently one can expect very strong self-action effects, which in turn may be used to determine the nonlinear refractive index n2 as a function of the wavelength λ. The self-defocusing effect has been observed and used to determine n2 in InSb.2
