Abstract

The large optical nonlinearity and fast recombination time of semiconductor doped glasses (SDGs) are attractive characteristics and have been studied extensively from the viewpoints of the physics of quantum dots and practical usage. However, the reported photodarkening1,2 of commercial SDGs due to laser irradiation has been a serious problem to use in practical nonlinear devices. In addition, it is difficult to clarify the nonlinear properties of microcrystallites, because they are embedded in multicomponent glasses with many impurities.
