Abstract

Previously, we described a photonic integrated circuit (PIC) composed of three tunable multiple quantum well (MQW) lasers integrated with a passive waveguide power combiner and an output optical amplifier1 suitable for wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) applications. Here we discuss the analog and digital crosstalk characteristics and the fiber transmission results obtained using a similar device with four integrated MQW tunable lasers operating at an ~1.53-µm wavelength, allowing for four independent digital WDM channels.
