Abstract

N-(4-nitro-2-pyridinyl)-phenylalaninol (NPPA) was first proposed by Nicoud and Twieg1 as a potentially interesting nonlinear-optical material in 1987. Its powder efficiency is 130 × urea. A molecule is shown in Fig. 1. We have determined the crystal structure from the linear and nonlinear-optical properties of NPPA.
