All-optical bit pattern matching with photonic gate arrays

Abstract

Photonic logic gates based on the quantum-confined Stark effect of multiple quantum wells (MQWs)1 are quite attractive in the construction of all-optical signal processing circuits. We developed a three-terminal logic gate array2 as shown in Fig. 1. It consists of a vertically integrated structure of MQW reflection modulators and phototransistors, which are optically isolated and electrically connected by a DBR layer.
