Technological applications of the laser beam action on a surface through a layer of liquid

Abstract

When the radiation from a cw IR laser is incident on the surface of a liquid, craters (vapor-gas channels) of different depth develop. In water and aqueous solutions, the deepest craters are generated by CO, CO2, and Er-IAG lasers, because, in this case, the emitted wavelengths fall on the water absorption maxima.
