Abstract

Semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) are currently under intensive investigation1-2 since they may provide a system with unique nonlinear optical properties. In this paper we report on a combined experimental and theoretical study of the two-photon absorption spectra of CdS QDs grown in glass. Two-photon absorption spectroscopy of quantum dots has the potential of providing valuable information on several standing questions, such as validity of the effective mass approximation, energy level structure, or the shape of the confining potential in such small structures.
