Abstract

Glasses doped with a large amount of CdSe microcrystallites (H-glasses) have been prepared and their optical properties have been evaluated. In order to avoid volatilization of CdSe during melting process, low melting glass system CdO-ZnO-P2O5 was employed as a glass matrix. Batch materials were melted at 1,200°C for 15 min. and then quenched using a conventional press-cooling method. By increasing the concentration of CdO in the glass matrix, the CdSe solubility in these glasses becomes higher.
