Laser-pumped 2.8-µm Er3+ :GSGG laser

Abstract

Laser emission at 2.8 µm from the 4I11/24I11/2 Er3+ transition in GSGG (gadoimiurn-scandium- gallium-gamet) is observed at room temperature. The 4I11/2 upper laser state is pumped directly by a Ti:sapphire laser at 970 nm. The relevant Er3+ energy levels are shown in Fig. 1. The pump wavelength is within the tuning range of commercially available InGaAs diode lasers.
