The influence of various imperfections on the performance of second-harmonic generation in quasi-phase-matching waveguides

Abstract

Second-harmonic-generation phase-matching by periodic modulation of effective nonlinearity has been demonstrated in waveguides for Li-NbO3,1,2 KTP,3 and organics.4 In LiNbO3 wave-guides, the conversion efficiency is significantly lower than expected; by optimizing the fabrication process there is thus a potential for increasing second-harmonic power. We have carried out supplementary theoretical analyses of different factors influencing the conversion efficiency. The results are discussed in relation to experimental data.
