Abstract

The most common approaches to obtaining subpicosecond optical pulses are to use colliding- pulse, mode-locking, hybrid synchronous pumping of dye lasers with active and passive elements and optical fiber compression. These methods produce the shortest pulsewidths, but are not generally tunable.
