Abstract

In this work, we study theoretically the mechanism of resonant tunneling in lower dimensional quantum structures. Our model involves a double-barrier potential along the transport direction of the carriers that are laterally confined by a finite cladding barrier, as shown in Fig. 1. In the case of strong lateral confinement, the lateral quantum number is conserved and the tunneling process can be considered as a single-channel process.
