Generation of 20 TW picosecond pulses: a new source for high intensity physics

Abstract

Strong motivations exist for the development of powerful ultrashort pulses up to few tens of terawatts peak power and above. The availability of such lasers should have an important impact on many domains in physics, such as the generation of highly ionized atoms, high-order harmonics, relativistic self-focusing or multiphotonic Thomson effects, X-ray lasers, or particle acceleration.1
